Job Responsibilities

The Department of Polymer Technology in collaboration with the Department of Organic Chemistry is seeking a researcher interested in developing new light- and electricity-driven processes for selective chemical recycling of common bulk plastics (e.g., PE, PP). You can read more about the research at the departments: Polymer Technology (https://www.kth.se/fpt/polymer-technology) and Department of Organic Chemistry (https://www.kth.se/sv/che/orgkem/avdelningen-for-organisk-kemi-1.18262). Unlike current thermal pathways, the proposed light- and electricity-driven processes are energy- and resource-efficient and can be turned on and off as needed, resulting in significantly improved safety and controllability. The project is conducted in collaboration with IVL and RISE to integrate the assessment of chemical safety, low environmental impact, and scalability into the developed processes.

Job Responsibilities Include:

  • Laboratory work to develop electro- and photolysis processes for polyolefin recycling
  • Characterization of feedstock and recycling products using multiple techniques
  • Evaluation and dissemination of results in the form of scientific publications
  • Internal and external communication of the obtained results to project partners and other relevant stakeholders

Qualifications

Requirements

  • PhD degree or foreign degree deemed equivalent to a PhD.
  • Relevant scientific expertise demonstrated through high-quality publications in international scientific journals
  • Good knowledge of experimental laboratory work in organic synthesis and analysis of organic compounds using chromatographic and spectroscopic methods

Meritorious

  • Research experience in any or some of the following areas: polymer materials and their characterization, chemical recycling, light- and/or electricity-driven chemical reactions
  • Ability to communicate research and development work in writing and orally

In assessing suitability for the position, we will evaluate scientific competence, pedagogical ability, and experience in developing and leading operations and personnel.

As a person, you have a strong ability to collaborate, can work independently, and have a good understanding of diversity and equal treatment issues with a particular focus on gender equality.
